Washington, DC (Sports Network) - Dillon Gee was sensational in his major league debut, carrying a no-hitter through five innings, as the New York Mets topped the Washington Nationals, 4-1. Gee (1-0) allowed just one run on two hits in seven spectacular innings, walking three and fanning four while adding an RBI single in his first at-bat for the Mets, who came into Tuesday with six losses in eight games. The 24-year-old rookie did his best impression of the man he replaced, Johan Santana, who had his start skipped due to a pectoral strain. Ike Davis added a three-run homer in the win. Willie Harris' homer broke up the no-hit bid, as the Nats failed again in their attempt to win four straight games this season. Washington fell to 0-7 this season after winning three consecutive contests. The Nationals' starter also made his major league debut, albeit a less successful one. Cuban Yuneski Maya (0-1) gave up four runs on five hits and two walks in five innings. Final Score: Philadelphia 8, Florida 7
Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Placido Polanco's eighth-inning two-out RBI single was the difference, as Philadelphia nipped Florida, 8-7, in the third installment of a four-game series. The victory, coupled with Atlanta's loss at Pittsburgh, lofted the two-time defending NL champs into first place in the NL East by a half-game over the Braves. The Phillies hadn't seen the top of the division since May 30. Raul Ibanez finished 3-for-4 with a homer and drove in three runs, while Shane Victorino and Ryan Howard also added solo shots for the Phillies, who have taken seven of their last nine overall. Ryan Madson (5-2) allowed Florida's tying run to score in the top of the eighth, but picked up the win by getting the final four outs. Logan Morrison doubled twice and knocked in a run for the Marlins, who have dropped two in a row since taking the opener of a day-night doubleheader on Monday. Mike Stanton finished 2-for-4 with a solo shot in defeat. Jose Veras (2-2) was charged with the loss after allowing the game-winning hit.
Final Score: Pittsburgh 5, Atlanta 0
Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) - Delwyn Young capped a five-run seventh with a two-run homer and James McDonald tossed seven scoreless innings, as the Pittsburgh Pirates shut down the Atlanta Braves, 5-0, in the second test of a three-game series at PNC Park. Ronny Cedeno hit a two-run triple for the Pirates, who won 3-1 in the opener of this series. Pedro Alvarez drove in the other run. McDonald (3-5) gave up just five hits in the process of putting the brakes on a three-start slide. The right-hander also struck out three and walked three. Tim Hudson (15-7) allowed four runs on six hits over 6 1/3 innings to suffer the loss. He allowed an earned run versus the Pirates for the first time since August 23, 2006. Hudson fell to 5-4 lifetime against Pittsburgh. Atlanta, which has lost five of six, fell a half-game behind first place Philadelphia in the NL East standings. The Phillies beat the Marlins Tuesday night to reclaim the division lead.
Final Score: Houston 7, Chicago 3
Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Michael Bourn finished 3-for-4 with three RBI and fell a home run shy of the cycle as Houston downed Chicago, 7-3, in the middle test of a three-game set from Wrigley Field. Tyler Colvin was 2-for-4 with two RBI and Marlon Byrd knocked in the other run for the Cubs, who had won four of five coming in. Pitching for the first time since August 1 due to a heart issue, Carlos Silva (10-6) was charged in defeat for nine hits and six runs over five innings.
Final Score: Milwaukee 4, St. Louis 2
Milwaukee, WI (Sports Network) - Casey McGehee's two-run single in the fifth inning proved to be the difference, as the Milwaukee Brewers held off the St. Louis Cardinals, 4-2, on a night that saw all-time saves leader Trevor Hoffman record the 600th save of his career. McGehee had three hits and drove in a total of three runs for the Brewers, who had lost six of seven coming in. Prince Fielder knocked in the other run. Chris Narveson (11-7) was solid in seven innings, allowing two runs on four hits to pick up the win. The left-hander also struck out nine and walked three. Final Score: Colorado 4, Cincinnati 3

Gonzalez extended his hit streak to 15 with his 32nd home run, and the Rockies won for the fifth straight game to close to within four games of first-place San Diego, which is currently playing Los Angeles. Gonzalez, who jumped into the Triple Crown race, has 31 hits in his last 59 at-bats with seven homers and 21 RBI. Johnny Cueto (12-5) allowed four runs -- three earned -- on seven hits and two walks in six innings to take the loss.
